(Alena) Last night I tried to cook Korean food, well bulgogi (불고기) for Joe. I don’t understand any of the Korean cooking techniques but using some of the recipe his grandma told us and some instructions from online, I managed to make it come out alright. But you don’t really know how to cook any authentic food unless you learn from someone who grew up eating and cooking it! In a similar way, you don't really know God unless you grow up with him. Unless he shows up to your front door and you have a real teaching moment with him!
And that happen's when we read our Bible and are in prayer with him.

I really wanted Joe’s mom or grandma to come over our home and show me how to cook but they haven’t been able to make it. Maybe it's time for me just show up to their front door, with all the ingredients in my hand really to learn!

This is one tricky thing about mixing our two cultures. I really want to give him and our children the experience of Korean home cooking, but my culture fails me there. I’m determined to get some decent recipes under my sleeves so I can cook seaweed soup for my children on their birthdays, add a Korean flare to our Thanksgiving, and pass down the traditions to our children. Joe’s my taste tester and I’m the cook so we will see how that goes.

Luke 11:9-10
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seek finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
